Regional Superintendent of Schools Petition Packet


You are strongly advised to obtain legal advice on the following subjects:

  1. your legal qualifications for office;
  2. the proper method for completing the petition forms with respect to the office;
  3. the minimum number of signatures required; and
  4. the qualifications of the signers and circulators, etc.

Qualifications:

  • 18 Years of Age
  • United States citizen
  • Resident of Kane County for 30 days
  • Registered voter in Kane County
  • Possess a master’s degree and certain other educational qualifications that are listed in 105 ILCS 5/3-1
  • Candidates for Regional Superintendent of Schools should examine the provisions of Section 3-1 carefully in order to determine if they qualify.

Republican

at least 722

Democrat

at least 556

Green

at least 21

 

Required Documents to File:

Petitions P-10 - The Candidate’s name should appear in the same form on the Petition Sheets and the Statement of Candidacy. Every candidate’s name will be certified as it appears on page #1 of the petition. Please see 10 ILCS 5/7-17, 8-8.1 and 10-5.1 for information on designation of names on petitions or nomination papers.

No other petition of any candidate for nomination for the office of Regional Superintendent of Schools may be filed and no such candidate’s name may be placed on a primary or General Election ballot, unless such candidate files as part of his/her petition, a certificate from the State Board of Education certifying that from the records of its office such candidate has the qualifications required by this section; however, any incumbent filing his/her petition for nomination for a succeeding term of office shall not be required to attach such certificate to his/her Petition of Candidacy.

Certificate of Deletions P-2A - In order to delete signatures, established party candidates must file the Certificate of Deletions. Only the person circulating the petition, or the candidate on whose behalf the petition is circulated, may strike any signature from the petition.

Statement of Candidacy P-1 - The Candidate’s name should appear in the same form on the Petition Sheets and the Statement of Candidacy.

Economic Interest Statement - A receipt indicating that the Statement has been filed with the Kane County Clerk's Office must be filed no later than 4:30 p.m. on the last day to file petitions with the Kane County Clerk's Office.

October 26 - November 2, 2009

Geneva, IL 60134

On the first day of filing, anyone who is in line as of 8:30 a.m., as well as those petitions received in the first mail delivery*, will be deemed filed at 8:30 a.m. and are eligible for any lottery for ballot position.

The filing line always extends outside of the building and onto the sidewalk, so you should dress appropriately for the weather outside.

If a petition, which is to be filed by a filer in line as of 8:30 a.m. on the first day of filing, is not ready to be filed as of the time of processing the last other filer in line as of that time, the petition will be deemed filed at the time of its actual filing and the candidate will not be eligible for the ballot position lottery.

* Individuals who wish to mail petitions and want to qualify for the 8:00 a.m. lottery must use the U. S. Postal Service and must address petitions to the Kane County Clerk's Office, 719 S Batavia Ave, Bldg B, Geneva, IL 60134. Petitions sent by delivery services other than the U.S. Postal Service do not qualify for the lottery.

FILING CLOSES AT 4:30 P.M. ON THE LAST DAY OF FILING AND THE PETITIONS MUST BE TIME STAMPED BY 4:30 P.M. IT IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO BE IN LINE AT 4:30 P.M. NO PETITION WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 4:30 P.M. EVEN IF THE INDIVIDUAL IS IN LINE FOR PROCESSING. PLEASE ALLOW EXTRA TIME FOR TRAVEL AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A LINE ON THE FINAL AFTERNOON OF FILING.
